About The Southern Social TX - Wedding magazine for Texas brides

Ben and I met online, and our first date was at a local Southern favorite over a strong bourbon cocktail, which was our signature cocktail through HD Liquid Catering. Flash forward to our first road trip. We sang old classic rock songs the whole way there, and I knew he was the guy for me when he sang every word to Bohemian Rhapsody! We incorporated many of those memories into our wedding; song lyric welcome signs, bourbon cocktails, tasty southern-inspired cuisine, and a killer rock-solid playlist! Family was a significant influence on our details, as well. A lot of the food was a nod to our first date and my mother's New Orleans childhood; Shrimp and grit cakes, mini crawfish po'boy bites, and blackened chicken entrees. I walked down the aisle to an Elvis song that Ben's father used to sing to him as a child to get him to go to sleep. All of these details came together perfectly and incorporated memories from each of our lives. Even though we originally had planned to get married in April 2020, we all know what happened then; it was worth the wait. Our day was perfect!

We are so happy that we we worked together as a couple during the planning process. We wanted our wedding to have as much input and balance from each of us. It was wonderful to collaborate creatively together and made it less stressful. Bens reasoning behind being involved? "It is my wedding too! I don't want to show up at someone else's!" Ben brought a lot of wonderful ideas and was fully involved throughout the entire process. His skills as a designer came through! He designed our logo, which was then printed on the macarons from Savor. Also, do a first look. It is simply the best feeling to see your partner before everything gets going!

Advice from the couple: Remember what makes you and your partner happy. As cliche as it sounds, planning a wedding and trying to please everyone can take a toll on you and can cause you to stray from your original vision for what your day should be. Make your wedding day about you and your partner and incorporate what makes your love special.

Standout Vendor: Kate McLeod Studio! Her work is stunning! Her use of textures and color is unmatched. She helped transition my spring wedding, which we had to postpone due to covid, to a Fall pallet perfectly.
