"Sunlight shining through the rich amber and deep cassis colored stained glass in medieval European cathedrals provided the genesis for this shoot and what could be more illustrative of that time period than the phenomenally popular Game of Thrones. The Mary Kate & Co. design squad worked collaboratively with its team of vendors to develop a story using the amber, cassis and purist blue color palette and incorporating in some Game of Thrones influence.Blaine Stone Lodge was our Westeros. Kendra Swalls of Paisley Layne Photography flawlessly captured the moody style we imagined. Ironically, the shoot took place on the day of the Game of Thrones series finale. Guests entered “Westeros” through its stone and iron gates decorated with waving tournament flags matching the color palette. An intimate ceremony site at the outdoor fireplace and mantle was flanked by huge cast iron candelabras decorated with greenery and florals. Simple ruscus accented the Kings Hand pin boutonnières for the groom and his groomsman. The king’s table was styled with an overflowing wooden dough bowl centerpiece of seasonal fruits interspersed with roses and dragon’s eggs. Shimmering gold votives added a warm light to the heavy wood table set with gold chargers and gold flatware, white bone china, vintage amber goblets and lead cut crystal. Guest tables coordinated with the head table. The cassis velvet linen contrasted nicely with the matching china and flatware. An opulent grouping of gold candles surrounded by a ring of greenery and vibrant flowers lent itself to the rich medieval theme. The GOT-inspired multi-tiered cake including layers with ribbon treatment, gold leaf and a dark petal look and a deep vibrant red rose as a topper completed the cake table."
