Over the last several years, the number of travelers rolling luggage into airports and skipping the “check baggage” line, has dramatically increased. There once was a time when we were content to check in our luggage, but growing fear of the airline loosing it and the ever-increasing bag fees has many of us preferring to carry on our luggage.

The new, post-COVID world of air travel, might just change all that. Airlines are now encouraging travelers to check in baggage hoping to speed up boarding and disembarking time and to minimize the risk of transmission. Some European airlines are even banning overhead storage compartments to reduce crowding and exposure.

What does this mean for you as you prepare to travel for your honeymoon or vacation? Well, let’s start by thinking of ways to optimize your suitcase space. One of the easiest ways to get all of the things you need in one bag, whether it be a carry on or if you do decide to check you bags, are packing cubes. Packing cubes are going to be a necessity and are your ticket to packing a bag like a pro. Look for packing cubes that collapse down and fold away to almost nothing if you plan to use more of them on the return home. Simply pack one or more of them inside one of the larger cubes and fill it when you’re ready to come home. *Note: Make sure your bag has sufficient space for those added souvenirs.

You can reserve one cube for your liquids and toiletries. Going the packing cube route and getting a transparent one like these from Amazon can save you time in the security line. Another small cube should contain your documents, any valuables and also prescription medication you’ll need on your trip. If you’re unexpectedly asked to check your bag, these cubes can simply be lifted out and carried on board with you.
